The 2013 Caldecott and Newbery Awards Go To. . .

2013 Caldecott Medal Winner
The American Library Association (ALA) announced this morning that the Caldecott Medal goes to This Is Not My Hat, by Jon Klassen. Honors were given to Green, by Laura Vaccaro Seeger, Extra Yarn, illustrated by Jon Klassen and written by Mac Barnett, Creepy Carrots!, illustrated by Peter Brown and written by Aaron Reynolds, One Cool Friend, illustrated by David Small and written by Toni Buzzeo, and Sleep Like a Tiger, illustrated by Pamela Zagarenski and written by Mary Logue.




The ALA gave the Newbery Medal to The One and Only Ivan, by Katherine Applegate, with Newbery Honors going to Three Times Lucky, by Sheila Turnage, Splendors and Glooms, by Laura Amy Schlitz, and Bomb: The Race to Build—and Steal—the World's Most Dangerous Weapon, by Steve Sheinkin.

The One and Only Ivan, by Katherine Applegate won the Thornhill Mock Newbery! Yay Thornhill! The Thornhill Community should be very proud, especially all the students who have such GREAT taste in literature!

2013 Thornhill Mock Caldecott and Newbery

The students will have a chance to vote for the best books of 2012! I would love the Thornhill community (parents, teachers, and staff) to vote too. The voting form can be found here. One vote per person and only real names please to make your vote count. I will post the Thornhill Winners along with the actual winners on Monday, January 28, 2013.
